The first time I ever sold a painting, I almost cried.  I was new to art and thought “If I can’t have that piece in front of me, I’ll never be able to remember how I did it.”  I hadn’t yet discovered my confidence, my language, or my aesthetic.

I am a painter and I use pastels.  I love to teach technique and share my passion for this medium.  However, whenever I have a class, workshop, or demo, people want to know about the marketing I employ almost as much! They ask question after question about promotion, social media, blogging, video work, instagram, youtube, monetizing, etc.  How do we reach people and get them to stay?

I’ve had a blog of some sort for over 15 years. Lots of trends in marketing have come and gone and I’ve tried a lot of them, had successes, and probably more failures. Some people call it “hustling” but I prefer to think of it as gathering, solving problems, telling a story, and building community.
