She was outside playing. Dressing her baby gorilla in diapers and pajamas. Her clothes mismatched and rumpled. She had crusty stuff on her face and tangled hair.
And she completely stole my heart.
Her little doe eyes and slightly dry lips…not quite "the pout" but almost. She wanted candy.
I gave her some.
Using my camera to capture what my heart feels. That is what I do. It refreshes my soul, makes me smile and sometimes cry. Gets my heart pumping and my mind thinking. Brings out my creativity and inspires growth. When a photo touches me I look at life more lovingly. When a moment captured on film enters my soul and spirit, I look at life differently. I'm more thankful and grateful, more joyful and careful about my daily actions and interactions. Seeing beauty around me is easier and more obvious. Beauty in stillness, in quiet moments, in joy, in solitude, in happiness, in sadness, in pain (yes it is there too), in birth, in newness, in restoration, in communion, in celebration, in worship, in anticipation, in love.
Today I want to look at life through that lens.
And rejoice.
P.S. My giveaway is still running! Ends on the 26th! Please see here for details.

I believe in the act of creativity in small everyday moments to make life more beautiful and meaningful..
I agree completely – the year I completed a project 365 I was happier, I was motivated to try more new things, I was more connected to my world, I was more observant, and more grateful. Love that about photography!
I’ve never done a 365 project Catina. Maybe soon?! 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Maybe that’s what I need to do to lift my spirits. Find the good in the simple things in life by getting behind my camera instead of hiding behind my fears, worry and anxiety. Sometimes being thankful for those simple things can bring you out of the feeling of despair about the big things in life. Thanks for the inspiration. Think I will take pictures today. Just for me.
I couldn’t agree more my friend! 🙂 I got a little teary just thinking about some of my favorites. It’s so easy to get lost in a photo…to go back there, to remember the moment.
Oh friends yes it is easy to get lost in those moments! Aren’t we all so glad that we have them to cherish? 🙂 @Jamie – hugs to you and hoping your day is amazing.
