At the heart of my work lies the belief that art is a powerful catalyst for growth and transformation. Create represents the endless possibilities of bringing something new into the world through the act of creation. Inspire speaks to the joy of sparking creativity in others, fostering a community of artists and dreamers who uplift one another. And finally, Grow symbolizes not only the personal growth that comes from embracing your creativity but also the gratitude for the transformative power of art. This journey is about flourishing together—finding joy in every mark and brushstroke and embracing the beauty of the process.

These values are woven into every painting, every class, and every interaction

create. inspire. grow.

As an artist, I believe that art has the power to transform and heal. My journey through pastel painting has been one of personal growth and rediscovery, especially after navigating cancer treatment. Through every brushstroke, I’ve learned to embrace imperfection and find peace in the process of creation. Whether I’m in my studio or teaching others, I strive to create an environment where creativity can flourish. Art, to me, is not just about the final product but the joy, reflection, and growth that comes with every moment spent creating.

I am passionate about sharing the transformative power of art with others, which is why I’ve dedicated myself to teaching and inspiring fellow creatives. My motto—Create, Inspire, Grow—captures the essence of my approach to both my own work and the art I share with students. Through my classes, I aim to spark inspiration, cultivate self-expression, and encourage everyone to grow, not only as artists but as individuals. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, I invite you to join me on this creative journey and discover the joy that comes from making art with intention and gratitude.

ready to paint with me?

Yes! I provide a supply list for each class, along with reference images and optional resources like worksheets or practice exercises. These materials are designed to enhance your learning experience.

Do you offer any resources or materials for students?

Yes! I offer feedback during the class, especially in smaller sessions. If time allows, I’ll provide personalized critique and encouragement. You can also share your work for additional feedback after the class via platforms like Padlet.

Can I get feedback on my work during the class?

Not at all! My classes are open to all skill levels, and I enjoy working with beginners as much as experienced artists. I provide step-by-step guidance, and everyone learns at their own pace in a supportive environment.

Do I need prior experience in pastels to join your classes?

You can sign up for any of my classes through my website or social media links. After registering, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all the details, including a Zoom link for online classes or location info for in-person workshops.

How do I sign up for a class?

I offer a range of pastel painting classes, from beginner to advanced levels. My classes cover various techniques, creative exercises, and themed projects designed to inspire and help you grow as an artist.

What types of classes do you offer?

Are your classes live or recorded?

Most of my classes are live on Zoom, where we work through projects together in real time. If you can't attend live, don't worry—many classes are recorded, and the recording will be sent to all students afterward.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe in creating a supportive, creative environment where students can freely express themselves. My goal is to inspire, guide, and empower you to explore your artistic potential and embrace the joy of creating. Every student’s journey is unique, and I’m here to nurture that growth.

Optional Supplies to Enhance Your Creative Experience

Alex Hillkurtz

Bethany’s approach to pastels is both mesmerizing and accessible. She’s able to share her thought process in real time, communicating clearly not only the steps she’s taking, but why she’s taking them. She dispels the mystery of the painting process without losing any of the magic.

Bryan Grayson

I’ve learned so much from Bethany’s live Zoom classes! Not only is she an amazing artist, she has an amazing ability to teach in a way that is clear and memorable. She has influenced my work is such a positive way!

Ellen Peterson

I look forward to every class! Bethany's variety of techniques, easy to understand and implement teaching style and engaging presentations are great for any level of pastelist.

Greg Stone

Bethany’s paintings are honest, expressive, and serene, and those same qualities are expressed in her teaching. She makes complex techniques easy to understand all while offering encouragement and helpful suggestions for success.

Sherry Barber

I had the privilege of taking a workshop with Bethany a couple of years ago. She is so talented and a great teacher. Very patient and can explain the how's and why's. I am looking forward to another in the near future.

Sharon Ferguson

As a lover of multiple media your pastel lessons are as much about art making as they are about technique and materials. Your work is inspiring and you are a caring communicator.

Donna Spears Lauzon

Working with pastels with the guidance of Bethany's lessons is a godsend for an artist that lives in a remote region as I do. Turn on the computer and there she is ! It is more than painting to me, it is a soulful experience into a beautiful world all around us.

Heather Corey

I discovered Bethany's tutorials during the pandemic and was immediately drawn to her artistry and style. I love how clearly she demonstrates her techniques, while also addressing the foundational skills of drawing and color. I have learned so much and always look forward to the next tutorial.

Linda Holmes

Bethany's online courses are delightful. Clear step by step instructions in the voice-over ones. I highly recommend her to beginners and advanced artists alike.

Karen Morris

I am and have been on many pastel artists’ Patreon sites. Bethany is hands down the pastel artist that I learn the most from. Each month she has a long Patreon Zoom session when she paints. She encourages her viewers to ask questions at any time. She explains each and every step of her painting in detail, expressing why she’s doing everything. I love the way Bethany encourages us. She is so patient, uplifting and such an inspiration. Her joy for life comes through in her gentle personality as well as her paintings. If I had to limit myself to one pastel artist on Patreon, it would be Bethany.
