I took this photo years ago, after a rainy day, in my front yard.  I stooped down to see what that white stuff in my grass was and behold! an entire kingdom appeared.  A little ruffled delicate kingdom.

This pic always reminds me to look with new eyes in places I’m not used to looking.  Maybe that means crawling on my hands and knees through the wet grass and focusing my gaze smaller and smaller. Sometimes we walk right past the growth and don’t realize.  Sometimes we are even sick of the rain because it means mud.  Ugh!  But isn’t all growth like this?  You don’t see it and then all of a sudden, it’s everywhere!  It might be small and delicate, maybe for you it’s big and powerful, and for some it’s just a rainy day that brings lots of mess.

Growth is a creeping, steady thing but only accomplished with action and effort.  I choose to focus on doing something everyday that brings me closer to my goals.  For me, that means painting and creativity of some kind, exercise, eating healthily.  (I am trying to be better about the laundry too but just like mushrooms, laundry GROWS!…. I digress.)

“We should not judge people by their peak of excellence; but by the distance they have traveled from the point where they started.”
― Henry Ward Beecher

I encourage you to start something new today.  What is it you want? Do you know?  It’s amazing when I talk to other creative souls, how they really haven’t thought about definite goals in their art, business, or home.

One thing that helps me daily is to write my goals down on a legal pad of paper.  I have big yearly goals and smaller daily/weekly/monthly goals.  Everyday I try to move towards those in some small way.  It could be as simple as sending an email or posting online, or it could be as big as painting larger, focusing on a new technique, or planning an event. Everyone is different and everyone has possibility and potential!

I would love to hear from you about what you would like to accomplish this season of your life.  Is it reading more books?  Becoming more involved in your community?  Is it being accepted into an exhibit?  Joining a new gallery? (**Keeping up with your laundry?**)  Write them down, make a plan, move towards it incrementally.  Don’t future trip with worry and make time to alter your gaze.  Small things make great things and I can’t wait to see what grows in you….

xoxo
